Stop Making Decisions Based on Fear!

What if I fail? What if I hire the wrong person? What if it doesn’t work?

What if, what if, what if….

Making decisions based on fear is a recipe for disaster.

Remember, what you focus on is what you’ll get

Focus on the fact that you may fail, and you probably WILL fail.

Continuously worry about hiring the wrong person and you’ll probably stay on the employee turnover hamster wheel.

Doubt your product will work and expect it to be less than perfect.

According to Meriam Webster Dictionary fear is defined as an unpleasant, often strong, emotion caused by anticipation or awareness of danger.

Notice fear is defined as the anticipation. It is not defined as the reality. And it probably isn’t the reality. It is your perception of what may occur if you take or don’t take a certain action.

According to Taking Charge, living under constant threat has serious health consequences. Physical health. Fear weakens our immune system and can cause cardiovascular damage, gastrointestinal problems such as ulcers and irritable bowel syndrome, and decreased fertility. It can lead to accelerated aging and even premature death.

Here’s the good news. You don’t have to live in fear.

Rather than a series of negative what if’s …the next time you’re challenged with fear write down the positive what if’s.

Then anticipate and write down all of the positive outcomes of those what if’s and how you can achieve those positive outcomes.

What if I hire the right person?

  • I will make more money
  • I will have less stress
  • I will serve more people
  • I will work less hours
  • I will feel healthier
  • I will sleep better

What has to happen in order for me to hire the right person ?

  • Define and document clear expectations
  • Create a sample test for potential candidates to ensure they are capable
  • Create a training process that ensures a short learning curve and sets candidates up for success
  • Meet with and learn from others who hire and retain top talent

Now those are some things you can look forward to with great anticipation! AND now you have a checklist to ensure that you hire the right person.

Go ahead. Take a few moments now and write down all of your negative, fear based what if’s. Then write down the positive version of that what if, the positive outcomes, and then the what needs to happen.

Now get to work on making those things happen!

Stop making fear based decisions:

  • Accomplish more
  • Sleep better
  • Live healthier
  • Reduce Stress
